Last year I was super excited to have the opportunity to interview the Soulful Nerd Kenny Wesley for Soul D'lite. Little did I know our paths would cross again in 2014, traveling halfway across the globe to meet face to face at SXSW.
Through the awesomeness that is social media we were both excited to find out we were in the same area at the same time, so of course I had to meet the 'Soulful Nerd' in person.
Kenny is as fun and quirky as his musical persona shows on the cover of his debut album 'The Real Thing' released in 2013. The album is a regular fixture in my playlist especially tracks 'The Window' and 'Missin You', which also shows the softer side of this talented North Carolina born artist.
With over 92,000 hits on you tube for his rendition of Michael Jackson's 'Rock With You' with Flutest Trey Eley, tells you that people dig Kenny's soulful voice.
I had an absolute ball hanging with Kenny Wesley and getting to know more about the artist that is the 'Soulful Nerd'.
Special mention to my good friend Jeremy Keas of Jeremy Keas Photography who was also with us on one of my most favourite days of 2014 so far.
You can pick up your hard copy of 'The Real Thing' from Kenny Wesley's Bandcamp page, or on i-Tunes.

Allen Stone is having a HUGE 2014! Touring around the Globe and appearing at some pretty big events, not to mention he is about to release his brand new album (check out the new single 'Million' as heard on Soul D'lite Radio).
Due to touch down in Australia next week to show some love to his Australian fans, Stone will perform for Byron Bay's Bluesfest and some side shows in Sydney (The Metro), Melbourne (The Corner) & Brisbane (The Zoo).
I was lucky enough to have a front row face to face view with the very talented soul artist himself at Lagunitas Day Party Cedar Street Courtyard in Austin Texas for SXSW 2014. Check out the video link below........
Australian fans, if you have your tickets to see Allen Stone you're in for a real treat!!!
What would be your ultimate festival?
Australia has big love for festivals with so many to choose from depending on what type of music you're into. The soul scene particularly is gearing up for a great festival year, with this months 'Bluesfest' in Bryon Bay (spread over 4 days) and of course the recent announcement of 'Soulfest' (Australia's first ever Neo Soul, Jazz & Hip Hop Festival) coming up in October.
There are also many great festivals held across the globe each year, but for me the 'ultimate festival' is a music industry one called SXSW held in Austin Texas every year.
Since my last visit back in 2007 SXSW has grown in a major way. An industry festival for not only music but also film and multimedia. SXSW 2014 was by far the biggest one to date with not only the up and coming acts from across the USA and the world showcasing but even the big artists wanting a piece of the action. I was there for the Music part of the festival alone which kicked off on 11th March through to 16th March 2014.
Spread across the whole city of Austin, the place is a buzz with events, showcases, marketing and of course great music everywhere you look. It's almost hard to plan your experience before you get there. With that in mind a rough schedule of where I would be and an open mind to take on whatever exciting spur of the moment experience came my way. I experienced the Ultimate Music Industry Festival.
Stay tuned to the Dj Liche Blog for more images (like this cool marketing poster painted on a wall of a building for Childish Gambino's new album), plus videos of my experiences.
I also want to say a very special thank you to my Houston/Austin crew Jeremy, Lauren, Edna, Kenny, Jeff & Mike for making this a truly 'awesome' ;) SXSW.

It was sneaker heaven at Auburn R.S.L. on Sunday 9th March for the First ever 'Sole Sessions' event with special thanks to Paulo from Sole Insiders.
Some of the freshest sneakers and hottest urban gear (tees) on offer from Sole Insiders (of course), Finest Apparel, Kicks Like Sensei, Xcqtive KustomKix, CA Accessories, Highstakes Apparel & Redskins Sportswear (thank you for my tees, they're awesome!).
There were also a ton of 'gotta get yo hands on' giveaways and a super cool blue pair of sneaks I had my close eye on.
Mixin it up on the decks with some of my Mixxbosses buddies Mo Green, Dj D, D-Kutz and Mega Guise throughout the day, we had a blast. I also can't forget coolest MC Prabz 'baby, baby' and performances from local hip hop artists Lobo Lowx and Whytail.
See how it all went down and check out the action below..........
Few artists out of many can claim longevity in the entertainment industry these days. Brian McKnight, however has had a career spanning over 20 years with more than 13 albums to date, and has added his two sons to the team, co-writing and performing at some of his shows. That's pretty impressive!!!
After witnessing this talented, funny and entertaining artist at work for the 'More Than Words Australia' Tour in Sydney at The Enmore Theatre on 3rd March, 2014 it is easy to see why Brian McKnight has had longevity. Sounding even better than a recorded album, the LIVE sounds of Brian McKnight were super sweet to the ear and with vocal acrobatics leaving you wondering 'how does he do it'.
With thanks to the Ginnen Group Brian McKnight brought his tour to the QPAC Theatre Brisbane, Enmore Theatre in Sydney, Palais Theatre Melbourne and Riverside Theatre in Perth. Even the winner of the double pass from the Soul D'lite Radio Show Karolina was totally impressed by the show.
Performing some of his fans favourite tracks, it was a night of sweet sounds and crowd sing-alongs with everyone leaving feeling they had witnessed a truly awesome show. It's definitely one of the best concerts I have been to in a while. Here is a clip of Brian performing live the song that started it all for me 'Anytime'.
Welcome to my first of many blog posts. Being a Dj and lover of great music I am blessed to see and experience so many things in the world of entertainment besides spinning music. Because of this I thought it was time to share some of those experiences with you, my fans, friends and family. This is where we can catch up, share and experience together the love of Soul, RnB, Hip Hop, Funk and all things Urban which I'm totally passionate about.
I also want to say a massive thank you to each and every one of you who have supported my journey over the years whether it be through dj'ing or radio (special thank you to the Mixxbosses Worldwide Crew and Soul D'lite Crew), I'm looking forward to having more great times with you in the future.
